At approximately 4 o’clock yesterday, I turned in my laptop. This would be the same laptop that fit easily in my purse. The same laptop I took everywhere. The same laptop that allowed me to pull over anywhere, whip it out, borrow someone’s internet connection and get my blog/e-mail/IM on.
Right now, I’m typing this on my old PC. I think I got it in 2000-ish. It’s a Compaq, lemme check the model, Presario 5184. Not only is the software on it old (I’m talking Windows 98 coupled with an elderly Microsoft Word 97!!!!) but I’m writing this using a dial up connection. Add dial up, old computer, and old software and you get a very Brady sucky experience. I know I need to go get another one. But I also know I lean towards being quite the penny pincher. Plus, if I can just wait until Christmas, computers should be on sale…
Oh shoot, I’m watching The Office and this fool, the one who starred in 40 Year Old Vigin, is doing a cover of OPP. And I set this to post in the morning. Cus I care–unlike some people…O, Beloved!!
…Anyhow, I am also waiting to see if the new job gives me a handy dandy easy to fit in my purse, laptop. Truth is, I know I could probably suffer though life never upgrading this computer. I could just continue to feed and medicate the three legged hampster who is kind enough to power my computer by running on his wheel. Old school!!
I’ve had the same cell phone for almost three years. All of my other friends who had the same model have long upgraded. Either their phone broke or they just thought they were too good to use a phone whose only screen color is blue. I keeps it old school though.
And the microwave?? I have had the same one my mom bought me back in 1993. It no longer ‘dings’. It never rotated. And I’m starting to think it only half-way heats. But I’m holding onto it for dear life. Why? Because it’s not dead…YET!!!
The television in my bedroom?? Mother bought that and the stereo back in 1995. The VCR on the TV stopped working a long time ago. The stereo, the radio part stops working when it wants to. And the CD player plays CD’s when it gets good and damned ready.
Do I intend to upgrade? Heckie NAW!! And even if I wanted to, I wouldn’t know how. I’ve never purchsed a TV, stereo, VCR, or DVD player in my life. Wait…I did actually go to the store for the DVD player and VCR but I never purchased anything. Everything in Casa de Kajuana came to me as gifts. So unless someone ‘gifts’ me new technology, I will likely continue scratching and surviving with my throw-back technology!!!
I’ll admit using old technology can be uncomfortable at first. But I bet in a few weeks, I won’t even get frustrated at the download times. And even if I do, I’d much rather have the money in the bank than the laptop in the purse!!!!
